Summary
Section titled “Summary”- Technical skills matter, but soft skills are crucial to being an effective architect. They are harder to define and measure than hard skills and are interpersonal in nature; personality affects how naturally they come, but anyone can improve them through learning, practice, and experience.
- Communication is central to the role — and includes being a good listener, not just conveying a message.
- Leadership means providing technical leadership, helping team members succeed, and mentoring; you must earn respect and credibility to get people to follow you. It is highly interconnected with communication.
- Negotiation is valuable for gaining buy-in and reaching consensus across different stakeholders.
